Last week, Blue Dragon Awards announced their nominees and what a fun way it is again to predict who might win.
I must admit that my first go with 61st Baeksang Art Award Predictions didn't go well (I think I got 5 or 6 right), but maybe this time I'll be more accurate!
You can find the nominee list in the Soompi article, and just like last time, I will pass the categories I've seen/know nothing about. If you wanna just scroll, my predictions are bolded.
The awards will air on July 18th, if you want to come back to see if I was right.

Family Matters,
Way Back Love,
Karma,
The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,
When Life Gives You Tangerines.
The only drama I have not seen from the list is Family Matters. The first episode didn't hook me, but there might still be many fans of that.
It's just like with Baeksang awards, where I underestimated the popularity of The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, and they swept quite a few awards.
Personally, it would be between When Life Gives You Tangerines and Way Back Love. However, Way Back Love didn't have that much popularity, or I haven't seen enough people gushing about it. Not sure why, as it's a great short drama.
Hiding my personal beliefs, it's probably a fight between The Trauma Code and WLGYT, and the latter will probably win. It just feels like a lot more people are talking about the drama, sharing their similar experiences, and bringing back some community. It had the things you can reflect on, and there's a lot to learn.
Not to diminish The Trauma Code, but from my experience, this was just a normal medical drama. But it does have a lot of fans...

(In my defence, When Life Gives You Tangerines won a grand prize (Daesang), so can I get a half point?)

Park Bo Gum (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
Park Hae Soo (Karma)
Lee Byung Hun (Squid Game 2)
Lee Jun Hyuk (Dongjae, The Good or the Bastard)
Ju Ji Hoon (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call)
No comment on Lee Byung Hun and Lee Jun Hyuk, as I haven't seen their performances in those dramas. Who knows, they might win, but here is my other point of view...
I wish the award would go to Park Hae Soo. He did a wonderful job in Karma and brought the drama to life. It's hard to comment much without spoiling, but he had some time to shine here.
Park Bo Gum's role wasn't that memorable for me. As a character, he was great as an actor; he did an amazing job, but there was more focus on other things that I forgot he was in there.
However, I have a feeling that Ju Ji Hoon will win. I'm more looking at Baeksang, where I was a bit surprised by him winning. Don't get me wrong, he is a great actor, but I'm probably having some biases with the dramas.

Park Eun Bin (Hyper Knife)
Seo Hyun Jin (The Trunk)
IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
Hyeri (Friendly Rivalry)
Cha Joo Young (The Queen Who Crowns)
To be honest, I'm always having more of a harder time when I need to pick the best actress. There are just so many great ones.
For me, it's between Park Eun Bin and IU. Park Eun Bin was great in Hyper Knife, and sometimes her expressions gave me chills. You could actually feel her being this crazy psycho, which is not a spoiler as it's revealed quite quickly.
On the other hand, IU was also great at portraying both Ae Sun and her daughter. They felt like different characters.
I also feel like Hyeri got a very interesting role, and it suited her. She was great as this grey character in Friendly Rivalry.
All I can say is that the competition is tough. Seo Hyun Jin and Cha Joo Young were probably great in their roles, but it's hard to comment when I haven't seen it. If I remember right, some people, including me, had a hard time tuning into The Trunk, so that might be why she would not win.

Park Byung Eun (Hyper Knife)
Yoon Kyung Ho (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call)
Lee Kwang Soo (Karma)
Lee Jun Young (Weak Hero Class 2)
Choi Dae Hoon (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
If I were looking at my Twitter (X) feed, I would say Lee Jun Young will get the award, but I'm not sure how much I can trust it.
Yoon Kyung Ho has made the most memorable impression on me. He was very funny in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call and had some great moments there. But I can't stop thinking about Lee Jun Young, even if he didn't have as much screentime, I feel like he left a very notable impression.
I'm having a hard time because I feel like Choi Dae Hoon was a great antagonist in the drama. A lot of people would remember his face after seeing it.
As well as Lee Kwang Soo, but it feels like he has these similar roles every time, someone a bit dumb, someone very loud, just this time rich.

It's kind of funny that that was my last sentence before moving on to the next category... Congratulations and sorry... 🤣

Gong Seung Yeon (Karma)
Kim Guk Hee (Family Matters)
Claudia Kim (Gyeongseong Creature 2)
Yeom Hye Ran (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
Jung Eun Chae (Your Honor)
My vote goes to Yeom Hye Ran. I feel like she did an amazing job as Ae Sun's mum and is still lingering around (at least in my heart). The way she portrayed the character was heartfelt and made me understand the character well.
The second vote would go to Gong Seung Yeon. It feels like I haven't seen her in quite some time, but it was good to see her back in and do a good job.
I wonder if someone from the dramas I haven't seen might win...

Kang You Seok (When Life Gives You Tangerines)
Lomon (Family Matters)
Bae Hyeon Seong (Gyeongseong Creature 2)
Choo Young Woo (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call)
Heo Nam Jun (Your Honor)
Choo Young Woo has already won a Baeksang, it's enough! (I'm just joking he did well)
I would give it to Bae Hyeon Seong, apart from Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee he's the one I remember. But I don't recall much of his acting there, so it also says something...
However, something in me, maybe an intuition, maybe stupidity, says that Lomon will win. Again, I have not seen Family Matters, but I have this feeling.

I'm digging myself a hole here... I should go with the predictable choice next time!

Kim Min Ha (Way Back Love)
Lee Su Hyun (Family Matters)
Lee Yi Dam (The Queen Who Crowns)
Chung Su Bin (Friendly Rivalry)
Ha Young (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call)
One of the things I liked about The Trauma Code was Ha Young's character, so in my heart, she's already a winner.
I do, however, feel like Kim Min Ha might win. She did amazing with her role in Way Back Love, you could feel her emotions and the way she went from this outgoing girl to a depressed woman. I also enjoyed her chemistry with Gong Myung.
Chung Su Bin might also have a chance. I watched dramas with her before, but I don't remember her, so this might be her breakthrough drama.

Moon Sang Hoon (The Blank Menu For You)
Yoon Nam No (Culinary Class Wars)
Lee Jin Hyuk (SNL Korea 6 and SNL Korea 7)
Jung Geun Woo (Kim Seong Geun’s Winter Vacation)
Jung Hyun Gyu (The Devil’s Plan: Death Room)
This one is just for fun because I have only seen The Devil's Plan. All I wanted to say is that Jung Hyun Gyu deserves that win, and I don't get why this guy gets so much hate.
Everyone should stop being pissed that he's playing a game when it's just a game! Other people there are acting so hypocritically, but nobody bats an eye at that?? Leave him alone and give him an award. He was the only entertainment in that show.

3/7... It's very clear I'm not the one giving awards. I'll do better next time!
