Where are My Winter Dramas at?

If you watch a lot of Korean dramas, you might already know that Koreans don't celebrate Christmas with family, giving gifts to others. More often, it will be a celebration with a partner or friends.

So, no wonder that it's not portrayed much in dramas.

During the wintertime, you could always rely on winter vibes. The best known examples are probably "Goblin", "Pinocchio", "While You Were Sleeping", etc. It's set in winter, everyone is wearing warm clothes, and you too can snuggle in with a hot chocolate and watch it.

As I started thinking of what kind of Christmasy blog I want to do, I understood that we don't get winter dramas anymore.

Every list I searched gave me dramas from the 2010s that I've already seen. "When the Weather Is Fine" seems to be the only 2020 winter drama that everyone is ready to suggest in these moments.

I ran through the list of dramas I watched in recent years, and nothing hit the same.

There is "Lovely Runner" that had some cute scenes in winter, but it's also set in spring and summer. "Mr Plankton" has one beautiful and sad scene in the snow.

That's all I could think of.

There are also dramas I think might have something wintery, but apparently I remember it wrong. For some reason in my head, "My Lovely Liar" was supposed to be set in winter, but sadly, that's not the case. I thought that maybe "Doctor Slump" might have some scenes because it's a great time to be depressed for everyone, but again, wrong.

Even thinking about the dramas I'm watching now, nothing gives off winter vibes!

"Typhoon Family" has more cold-looking scenes at times, like when he and his mother are thrown out of their house, but again, it's not set in winter.

You might also question why I care so much, and the answer is simple: I love winter. The coldness of fresh air when you step outside, a very romanticised version of snow, where it's white and beautiful, and the trees look alike.

Now the dramas seem to be running away from coldness and those puffy jackets. Recently, I finished "To the Moon", and there are some scenes in snow, they even say it's winter, but at times they aren't even wearing a coat outside.

This is a long rant of me saying: they should bring back winter dramas. I'm not even asking for a full-blown "Winter Sonata", just something cosy on the dark and cold days.

Sadly, I don't have an answer for why it's the case.

Are they afraid of the cold? Some scenes are probably a bit uncomfortable, but you can't tell me it's not the same with higher temperatures.

Do you have any recommendations? Maybe I missed something?

I want to add that I can mostly talk about K-dramas on this topic because I spend all my time on them, but I should probably try to dive into more J-dramas or C-dramas.

There was a C-drama trending around this time of year, "Snowfall", or was it "Amidst a Snowstorm of Love"? All I know, there was snow, so maybe I'll look more into this drama.
