What 2026 Will Bring Us

We've looked back at this year and how it all went. If you're like me and doing the End of the Year Drama Challenge, we're still kind of in the process of it.

So I just wanted to share what kind of dramas we might have next year, what is happening with the blogs going forward and more!

What kind of dramas do you wish to see in 2026?

I feel like we already get too many historical dramas, and I rarely watch them. However, I have this feeling that after "Bon Appétit, Your Majesty", there will be an influx of similar dramas.

There are older dramas where a female lead gets transported to historical times, and I feel like this theme is always more entertaining, especially to people like me, who don't normally watch sageuks. The best example of that is probably "Moon Lovers: The Scarlet Heart Ryeo".

I would love to have a more fantastical take on historical dramas. "The Haunted Palace" took the ghost route, and "The First Night with the Duke" had a basis in a fictional world but chose to stay grounded.

Maybe "The Remarried Empress" might change this trajectory. From what I've seen in photos, it's closer to the webtoon and the fantasy world it's set in.

Hopefully, it stays like that, containing all the magical elements from the webtoon.

Quick note: On the list that surpassed the 10% ratings, there are political, slower-paced dramas. But the only thing I want to predict for them is their disappearance, but that's just my preference.

I feel like there are barely any new faces in the drama world, so I would love it if directors would give more chances to a new generation.

It's understandable why they use well-known actors. More money, more people watching, but as we saw with some dramas from this year, a good cast doesn't make it a good drama.

Let me know how many people finished and enjoyed "Twelve" or "When the Stars Gossip".

I feel that "Resident Playbook" has done a good job in bringing together well-known and accomplished actors, as well as introducing some new faces. Not saying that new actors could have saved those two shows, but they would've cost less, and maybe the investment would go to screenwriting or some other bits.

Veteran actors shouldn't step aside or something; it's always nice to see them. But sometimes I do wonder what the new generation of actors is going to look like.

Also, do we really need to have 18-year age gap romance dramas? Or is it just old man fantasy?

I'm excited to see Lee Jong Suk, Jang Na Ra, Shin Min Ah and other actors in their dramas. There is space for everyone. Don't get me wrong.

For this year, I wanted to watch an old school drama, to see where the tropes come from and maybe fall in love with it myself.

The loving didn't happen, but I watched "Winter Sonata", a drama from 2002, which had many people buzzing at the time. There were a lot of original (at the time) tropes, and what a surprise it was to see the actors I know from the dramas now!

So, for 2026, I want to watch a drama that has more than 100 episodes.

They are usually the weekend dramas, makjang-type ones. I also feel like a good drama doesn't need that many episodes, but it's always good to challenge my views.

I just need to pick the right one... Any suggestions?

I'll keep on posting stuff, writing reviews, because I'm just having a good time even when not a lot of people are reading it. I always love to go back and read what I thought on the drama or have a quick refresher now when the dramas are having two seasons or more.

However, I might lessen the frequency of posting.

My favourite posts to write were the ones where I had to search up for some stuff, like Aema or School dramas.

Not a lot of people have read it, but I find myself more knowledgeable on the topic, and even if they're a struggle to write sometimes. It feels better to post those kinds of blogs than to publish something I thought of five minutes before.

Those are also quite fun to make, especially ranking the actors' works. I'll always love a tier list.

So there will be fun stuff, and of course, reviews as I'm very opinionated, but more to come. Hopefully, more researched stuff, and I don't become too lazy.

Maybe you want to see more of something? A blog that stuck with you?
